Dear Grandma.

Wednesday morning my grandma passed away. The past 3 days have been a whirlwind of emotion as I made my way to Ohio to say goodbye. My Grandma Betty was a special woman. She was a caring woman, always concerned about others. She was a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, an aunt, a sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed.



My sister and I left Friday for Ohio. We got in around 2:30 and headed straight to the funeral home. Seeing grandma was very emotional for me. She had been bed ridden for the past 2 plus years as a result of a fall and broken hip. As small and frail as she was, this woman was strong!!! She lived with pain every day for a very long time, and finally looked at peace. You can read her obituary here.

After the funeral home, we went to El San Jose. They have excellent food. And my brother-in-law works there. We got a pitcher of margaritas and some delicious guacamole:

And I got a steak buritto:

It was nice just being with my family and I got to spend some time with my adorable little niece:

And my step bother Micah is pretty adorable too!

Then I passed out in a food coma watching tv on the floor.

Saturday was a whirlwind. I woke up early and enjoyed one of my favorite hometown treats:

Then we went to the funeral home for calling hours and the funeral, the to the cemetery for the burial. It was really cold out there for my thin Florida blood. Brrr!

Afterwards the church had a wonderful luncheon for family and friends:

Baked ziti, scalloped potatoes, turkey, salad, baked beans, green bean casserole, and there were plenty of yummy desserts we shared:

Grandma always had a sweet tooth. I inherited that from her for sure.

After lunch, we went back to Grandma’s house to collect some goodies:) It was the fist time so many of the family has been together in maybe 15 years or longer?

Afterwards, we picked up my beloved Penso’s pizza and headed back to dad’s:

We stayed up pretty late looking at pictures and talking, then had an early flight this morning (Sunday). I enjoyed a glorious nap today.

Now as I relax here on the couch, I just feel at peace. Something happened in me this weekend that made me forget about all the little worries of life and get a clear picture of how I want to spend the rest of my life. It is all about family and love and expressing love and caring. Although, I can’t really express how deep I have been affected, but I’m full of love and peace and thank grandma for that. I love you grandma, thank you for everything! I will miss you until I see you again.

Monday’s Wedding Planning Tip

I thought it might be fun to share with you a weekly wedding planning tip. Let’s talk about cake toppers.

Whichever kind you choose, you’ll want to make sure your cake baker is aware of what you’ll be using. It is helpful if they actually have the piece when they go to build your cake. Sometimes they need to add some kind of support to the top of your cake to avoid sinking.

After a busy wedding planning day and a trip to the grocery store on the way home. I made the quickest healthiest meal I could think of…Fish:

Seasoned with low sodium cajun seasoning, a big salad, and some microwaved then tossed with olive oil salt, pepper, and rosemary, then sautéed for a couple of minutes in a frying pan.

I cooked the tilapia on the George Foreman grill, my second favorite small appliance. First is the crock pot. It was healthy, yummy and filling. While I was at it, I made a couple more salads for lunches. Planning ahead is the key to eating healthy me thinks.
