Fast Forward: The Honeymoon Part 1, Barcelona.

I wanted to wait until we get the wedding photos back before I do the wedding recap post, so let’s talk about the honeymoon.

We waited a day to leave for the honeymoon. The day after the wedding, we went to brunch at Jackson’s Bistro (best brunch in Tampa in my opinion).

After brunch, we said our good byes to our family, picked up some euros, dropped of the tux, and picked up some things at Target, then came home to relax a bit, pack, clean the litter boxes and get everything ready for the trip of a lifetime!

First stop: Barcelona.

We left late Monday morning for the airport. I’m terrified of flying, but this vodka and oj helped:

We boarded the plane and stopped in Atlanta for a few hours. We had a late lunch at The Jekyll Island Seafood Company. I had the taco trio, one chicken, one shrimp, and one fish. Hubby had the veggie melt which was amazing!

IMG_1314 IMG_1312 IMG_1313Then we boarded the plane for the long flight. I couldn’t sleep much, so I watched a movie (This is 40) and the ride went surprisingly fast. They served dinner:

We arrived in Barcelona at 8:30 am, and got to our place around 10:00. We rented an apartment through flipkey.com. We had a couple of hours to kill before we could check in, so we found a cafe and ordered a much-needed cafe con leche. I was sooo tired at this point. Then we sat in a park until check in.IMG_1315 IMG_1318

The apartment was great. It had a Spanish vibe and the location was perfect.

We checked in, popped out for some water and necessities, then came back for a much-needed nap. After our nap, we headed out to explore. We walked down the famous Las Ramblas, and ventured into the heart of Barcelona, we ended up at a tapas restaurant for a snack and the strongest sangria ever!

IMG_1327 IMG_1326image_11We then walked some more and found another restaurant for dinner. It was one of our favorite meals.

We had olives, chorizo, patata bravas (potatoes with a spicy, creamy sauce) the most tender calamari I have ever had, bread rubbed with garlic, tomato, drizzled with olive oil, then sprinkled with salt, and paella. And a pitcher of sangria. Amazing!

We stumbled back to the flat and slept for 14 hours.

The next day, we were excited to go to La Boqueria Market (we ended up going every day we were there). It is a foodie paradise. Stalls of produce, meats, cheeses, fresh eggs, fresh squeezed juices, seafood, candies, prepared foods and more.

I debated putting these on here, but although we didn’t eat goat heads, we did eat some strange things. Strange to us, but I think it’s fascinating to learn other culture’s foods, so I’m open to trying almost anything once.

We spent 4 nights in Barcelona, and spent our days walking the streets, seeing the sights, eating the food, and drinking the sangria:

We didn’t plan too much, but we did want to make a special trip to see La Sagrada Familia, the church Gaudi designed but knew he wouldn’t see it finished in his lifetime, they have been building it for over 100 years. The church is projected to be finished in 2026, the centennial of Gaudi’s death. I hope to go back to celebrate our 13 year anniversary there and see it.

Back to the food, because the food is amazing! We especially love the pintxos, which are little snacks served on toothpicks:

You take however many you want, save the toothpicks, then they charge you on how many toothpicks you have. It was delicious!

I also made a couple of meals in. One day we picked up some produce and a calzone from La Boqueria, and a fresh pasta from Que Pasta, which is a cute little take out fresh pasta place, where you pick your, pasta, sauce, and cheese, and they make it in 4 minutes:

I made a salad, and we split the calzone, and pasta:

Another night we picked up more goodies at the market and I made a salmon nicoise salad and cheesy tomato bread:

Other yummy eats included more tapas, more paella, and gelato:

I fell in love with Barcelona, and even more in love with my new husband. Our time in Barcelona was magical:

And then it was time to leave. off to Paris!
